As Team Europe attempt to retain the 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla on September 16th, amateur golfers in Nottingham (UK) and California (USA) will be experiencing the same excitement of this competition format in an "Indoor" Ryder Cup.

The last three years have seen a huge increase in the number of indoor golfing venues opening across the world allowing golfers to practise and play indoors with the use of state-of-the-art Full Swing Golf simulators.

Within the last few years the technology has been developed by Full Swing Golf to allow players to compete against each other from any venue within any country via the internet, which is the inspiration behind this indoor Ryder Cup competition.

"The Ryder Cup is one of the most exciting and competitive events in golf for both players and spectators" says Neil Jenkins, Director of CyberGolf, Nottingham. "With the increased popularity of online competitions and tournaments, we wanted to give our golfers the thrill of playing in a Ryder Cup style format, so we contacted a similar venue in the States to see if they were up for the challenge."

Both teams are set to tee off against each other on September 14th at 5pm GMT with the fourball matches being played on Oakland Hills Golf course (American Ryder Cup course - 2004) and the single matches to be played on Valderrama Golf course (European Ryder Cup course - 1997).

"We chose these two courses as they are both previous Ryder Cup venues and are very challenging" says Dan Muzzey, Director of Players Club Golf, California. "We are very excited to be a part of this event and I know our players are very much looking forward to the challenge".

As is the case with the professional Ryder Cup, the order and grouping of players can be key to a team's success, something CyberGolf PGA Professional and Team Captain Dan Bailey will experience for the first time.

"As every player will be playing off scratch, we've basically chosen those players who shoot the lowest scores on the simulators and there will be a few training sessions prior to the event to help us choose the best pairings" says Dan, "Whilst the competition has been organised as a bit of fun for the customers, we are taking it seriously and definitely want to win this indoor version of the Ryder Cup and keep the cup here in the UK."
